Deep into a home remodel, people say we’re enjoying “the best possible weather.” But I’m learning a lot about perspective.
Winter-remodelers think July is ideal. It’s only after they learn your air-conditioning is cut off during a 110˚ heat wave that they acknowledge barbecuing the Christmas turkey under an umbrella really wasn’t inconvenient.
To kids, the technology restrictions from their mean mom constituted cruel and unusual punishment. Until a friend offered her relatively low-tech home for a break from the sweltering construction zone.
As they swam in said friend’s pool, video games were forgotten.
But the greatest lesson for this prideful woman, who has never so much as taken a meal after surgery, is that there is no shame in accepting kindness from friends, or even strangers. I slept. I was comfortable. We’re safe and have shelter, even in the construction zone. This situation doesn’t qualify as a problem. #perspective
